I Like That About Her Read online

Chandler patted the spot next to her on the bed and smiled.

I sat down next to her, but kept a friendly distance between us.

“How was the rest of your weekend?” she asked.

“Good,” I responded brightly. For once that was an honest answer.

“Are you going back to school tomorrow?”

“Yeah,” I smiled. “Luckily I emailed Mr. Bishop and I still have my part in the play.”

  “That’s awesome, Faith!”

“I seriously can’t wait. I just want things to be normal again.”

“That’s understandable. How are things with your mom?”

“Things are good. She finally realized she has a bit of a problem with drinking. She’s going to start seeing a counselor and going to AA meetings.”

  “That’s great, Faith!”

“Yeah, I’m glad she’s finally trying to take care of herself. Plus, she seems like she might actually come around to the idea of me being gay. I mean I don’t know if she’s ever going to be completely okay with it, but it’s huge that she’s trying.”

“Definitely,” she smiled. “I knew she’d come around.” She placed her hand on the bed in between us. I looked down at her hand and felt the urge to put my hand over hers, so I did.

Chandler looked down at our hands and took a deep breath as she looked up into my eyes.

“I really missed you,” I professed.

“I know the feeling,” she sighed. “I missed you too, Faith.”

“Not being with you hurts. These last two weeks were the worse weeks of my life.”

Chandler looked down sadly. I had hurt her and that was the last thing I had ever wanted to do.

“Chandler, I am so sorry for everything.”

  “You already apologized.”

“I know, but I need you to know how much I mean it. Ending things between us was the biggest mistake I ever made in my life. I should have fought for us, but I didn’t.”

She looked into my eyes and nodded her head slowly.

“I love you,” I smiled. “I don’t think I’ll ever stop loving you. I hope that maybe one day you’d be willing to take a chance on me again. On us again.”

I looked at her hopefully as she smiled and turned towards me. She held my hands in hers.

“You are a very frustrating person, Faith. You can be stubborn, annoying, and borderline bitchy sometimes.”

I looked down, thinking she was letting me down gently.

Chandler lowered her head so that she could make eye contact with me again. I looked at her and she smiled gently.

“But you can also be kind, loyal, and loving. When you care about someone, you care about them with all of your heart. I love that about you. You’re smart and beautiful. You’re the most beautiful person I’ve ever known, inside and out. I love everything about you, Faith. The good and the bad.”

I smiled tearfully as she looked down at our interlinked hands.

“My life isn’t as happy without you in it. Actually that’s putting it lightly. Life sucks without you. So, to answer your question, I will always take a chance on you. On us.”

Tears were now falling down my face as I looked down at her lips. Slowly the gap between us closed and our lips met halfway.

I caressed her cheek as we explored each other’s lips. I could stay like that forever, but I had to give her something.

I pulled away from the kiss slowly and smiled. “I have something for you.”

  “Ooh, what?” she asked excitedly.

“Your Christmas present. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to give this to you anymore, but I got it weeks ago.”

  “Christmas isn’t for another week.”

“I know, but right now feels like the best time to give it to you.” I pulled the tiny black box out of my pocket. I opened it and showed her the silver ring with a red gemstone in the middle.

She smiled as she tilted her head in question. “Are you proposing?” she joked.

“No,” I laughed. “It’s not an engagement ring. It’s a promise ring. It signifies my promise to always fight for us and to never let anything stand between us ever again. My promise to love you and only you.”

“I love it,” she smiled tearfully.

“I hope it fits,” I said as I took it out of the box and slid it onto her finger.

“It fits perfectly,” she smiled. “Just like us.”

I smiled as she caressed my cheeks and kissed me.

As we pulled apart she smiled at me. “Great, now I feel like your Christmas gift is nothing compared to yours.”

I smiled at her and looked into the eyes that I fell in love with on that first day of school. “That’s okay. I already have everything I could ever want. Besides, you already gave me the best Christmas gift you could give me.”

  “Oh, yeah? What’s that?”

  “You,” I smiled.

Chandler rolled her eyes and pushed me back onto my back. “You are the cheesiest person I have ever met.”

“Excuse me, I prefer the term romantic.”

“No, I think cheesy is more like it. But you know what?”

“What?” I asked, gazing up at her as she brushed my hair back.

“I kind of like that about you.”
